Volunteering at Silver Blades
Silver Blades is a volunteer-run club with over 500 members, and your involvement is critical to our success! That’s why each family registering a Preliminary, Junior, Intermediate or Senior skater is required to put in 10 volunteer hours over the course of the season. And registrations for skaters at these four levels will not be completed without a $200 Volunteer cheque or online deposit (to be processed on April 30, 2018 if you don’t fulfill your family’s 10-hour volunteering commitment). This policy is in line with other volunteer-run clubs in the GTA and Southern Ontario, and necessary because of the high volume of work involved in running a skating club of our size.
We have historically relied on a small group of volunteers to do an enormous amount of work. Our goal is to increase our volunteer base, give all of our members a better understanding of the club's goals and operations, and hopefully attract more new members to join our Board, once they see that the commitment is manageable.
Don't worry! We will have plenty of volunteer opportunities to help you meet your 10-hour commitment by the end of the season. You can view the lineup of volunteer roles we're currently recruiting under the registration tab of our website. And if you like the sound of something you see there, go ahead and sign yourself up for it.
We'll also be announcing new volunteer opportunities as they crop up in our "In the Loop" monthly newsletter, so keep an eye on your inbox for this updated info.
