StarSkate
StarSkate develops fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, free skate and artistic skating. This program teaches figure skating skills in a group and private lesson format. To be eligible for the StarSkate program, skaters must have successfully completed all 6 stages of CanSkate. All skaters in StarSkate must wear proper figure skates and skate two days a week on Silver Blades on ice sessions. We group our skaters into four levels, for the 2025/26 season these levels are:
Senior: To qualify as a Senior skater, athletes must have passed two complete tests from among STAR 7 Freeskate, Dance, or Skills, and must be 13 years of age by December 31, 2025. A private coach is required.
Intermediate: To qualify as an Intermediate skater, athletes must have successfully completed at least three of the four, complete, STAR 5 assessments: Skills, Dance, Freeskate, and Artistic. A private coach is required.
Junior: To qualify as a Junior skater, athletes must have successfully completed all STAR 2 assessments: Skills, Dance, and Freeskate. A private coach is required at this level. One, 15 minute, group lesson will be provided by the Club on Junior sessions. (Please note: no club group lesson will be available on the Junior/Intermediate session.)
Preliminary: New This Season - Preliminary Program Model
We are excited to roll out our new Preliminary program model for the 2026–2027 season. Changes have been made to align with guidelines from Skate Canada and Skate Ontario while providing families with greater support as skaters transition from CanSkate into the STARSkate pathway.
Under this new model, a group coaching approach will be used for the entire session. Private instruction will not be permitted at the Preliminary level. This structure is designed to provide a strong developmental foundation while ensuring skaters receive consistent instruction in a collaborative learning environment.
The Preliminary program is designed for skaters at the CanSkate Stage 6 through STAR 2 levels. While participation is flexible, we strongly recommend that skaters attend at least two days per week to support skill development and progression.
All group lessons are included in the program fees. Skaters will receive instruction for the entire duration of each session and will be placed into small groups of five or fewer skaters by our STARSkate Coordinator. These small group sizes allow coaches to provide individualized attention while maintaining the benefits of a group learning environment.
Skaters will also have the opportunity to work with a variety of Silver Blades coaches throughout the season, allowing them to benefit from different coaching styles and areas of expertise while receiving focused instruction in specific disciplines.
Throughout the season, skaters will have the opportunity to develop skills in all areas of figure skating, including:
-
Jumps
-
Spins
-
Dance
-
Skating Skills
-
Field Moves
Our goal is to provide a fun, supportive, and development-focused environment that helps skaters build strong fundamentals, gain confidence, and prepare for future success within the STARSkate program.
