Figure Skating

Off-Ice

Off - Ice Training Program:

Available for Preliminary, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior skaters.

This program is designed to develop jump technique, flexibility, strength, and overall athletic performance to complement on-ice training. Off-ice training is an essential component of a figure skater’s development, helping athletes build the physical foundation required for improved skating skills, spins, jumps, balance, and injury prevention.

Classes feature intensive conditioning through a variety of strength and stability exercises specifically tailored to the needs of figure skaters. Skaters will train using free weights, resistance bands, and bodyweight exercises to enhance power, coordination, endurance, and control. Each session concludes with 10 minutes of guided stretching to improve flexibility and support recovery.

Benefits include:

  • Improved jump technique and power

  • Increased strength and endurance

  • Enhanced balance and coordination

  • Better spin control and stability

  • Greater flexibility and range of motion

  • Reduced risk of injury through targeted conditioning

Suitable for skaters at the Preliminary, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior levels.

Off-Ice Jump & Harness Class:

Designed for skaters training off-ice, this program focuses on developing proper jump technique, air position, rotation, and overall athletic performance. Using vestibular training equipment and specialized off-ice drills, skaters learn correct rotational mechanics and jumping techniques while wearing running shoes, helping to improve jump consistency and confidence on the ice. Skaters work toward mastering single, double, and eventually triple jump rotations, with a strong emphasis on developing quickness, body awareness, and explosive power.

Classes also incorporate plyometric training, including box jumps and other explosive exercises designed to maximize strength, speed, and power. These workouts help skaters develop the fast-twitch muscle activation required for successful jump takeoffs, rotation, and landings, ultimately accelerating jump development and improving on-ice performance.

Available to Junior, Intermediate, and Senior skaters who demonstrate the necessary skill level and commitment to training. This class is intended for our more dedicated and advanced skaters.

To be eligible for the Jump & Harness class, skaters must be registered in at least one regular Off-Ice class at Silver Blades. Interested skaters must add their name to the session waitlist. All waitlisted skaters will be reviewed by the StarSkate Coordinator and Off-Ice Instructor to ensure they meet the program requirements and are training at an appropriate level for participation.

Placement is based on skill level, training commitment, and coach/instructor recommendation. Skating up or down a level is not permitted.

Ballet for Figure Skaters:

Available for Junior, Intermediate, and Senior skaters.

We are pleased to offer a ballet class designed specifically for figure skaters. Ballet is an excellent complement to skating training, helping athletes develop proper posture, graceful lines, flexibility, balance, and musicality.

Through ballet instruction, skaters will improve body awareness, coordination, and artistic expression, all of which contribute to stronger on-ice performance. The class focuses on technique, movement quality, and presentation, helping skaters build the skills needed to perform with confidence and elegance.

Benefits include:

  • Improved posture and alignment

  • Enhanced flexibility and range of motion

  • Stronger body lines and extension

  • Increased balance and coordination

  • Greater musicality and rhythm

  • Improved artistic expression and presentation

This class is recommended for all Junior, Intermediate, and Senior skaters looking to strengthen both the technical and artistic aspects of their skating.
