CAREGIVER & TOT

Caregiver (adult 18+ years old) & Tot (child 2-5 years old)

Mondays 3:40pm-4:10pm at Central Arena

All lessons are taught by a professional coach in a group lesson format and are 30 minutes in length.

With the use of interactive games and activities, we encourage young skaters to become comfortable on the ice in a fun and supportive environment. Children will be taught to stand on their own, fall down and get back up on their own. They will also be taught basic forward skating skills.

Requirements:
- Each skater is required to have one adult* accompany them during the class (*must be the exact same adult & child that registered each week).
- Adults must also wear skates to participate.
- Adult must provide constant, active, on-ice supervision.
- Adult must be a proficient skater already (have good balance), as we are focusing on teaching the child to skate, not the adult.
- If the adult is not present, we will not allow the child on the ice.
- Siblings will not be allowed on the ice with the skater and caregiver.
- Skaters must wear a CSA approved "hockey" helmet.
- Adults must wear a CSA approved "hockey" helmet, if they cannot pass the Stage 5 CanSkate elements. It is at the Coach’s discretion if an adult cannot pass CanSkate Stage 5 (e.g. skate backwards well, perform crosscuts, and stop on command).
- Both the child and adult must be registered as a Skate Canada member.

Skate Canada Adult Membership Fee:
A Skate Canada Membership Fee of $61.70 must be paid for caregivers in addition to the program fee.

You must add both the "Caregiver & Tot: TOT" and "Caregiver & Tot: CAREGIVER" programs (2 separate) to your cart for purchase.

Equipment Requirements:

  • CSA-approved helmets with face cage are mandatory for toddlers & CSA - approved helmets are mandatory for all other participants.
  • Hockey or figure skates that lace up (plastic skates with buckles do not provide the proper support).
  • Blades should be single blade not double.
  • It is very difficult to learn to skate on dull blades. All newly purchased skates must be sharpened.
  • Waterproof gloves and layered up in clothing that is warm, dark and waterproof.
  • Bicycle or ski helmets are not permitted.
