Adaptive CanSkate
What is Adaptive CanSkate at Silver Blades?
Adaptive CanSkate is an opportunity for children with physical, cognitive, or developmental differences to participate in a supportive and fun learn-to-skate environment. Our goal is to integrate skaters into our Saturday CanSkate session with thoughtful accommodations tailored to each child’s needs (e.g., breaks, more time to adjust to the setting, sensory needs).
What Does it Look Like for Families?
- Individualized Support: Before the season begins, you’ll connect with our trained coach to discuss your child’s specific needs, goals, and preferences. By working with skaters and adapting to their needs, it will make skating more fun!
- Integrated Participation: Your child will skate alongside others on a CanSkate session, with modifications made as needed for their success and comfort.
- Consistent Helpers: Whenever possible, your skater will be paired with the same Program Assistant (PA) and coach each week to build familiarity and trust.
- Flexible Enrollment: We understand that it can take time to determine if the program is a good fit, so we will offer a longer withdrawal timeline for Adaptive CanSkate participants.
- Ongoing Communication: Our coach will check in with you regularly to ensure your child’s experience is positive and evolving with their progress.
