Silver Blades Awards

We love to recognize our skaters' achievements! Several awards for year-long performance are presented at our annual End-of-Year Banquet in May, and we use a weighted point system to measure achievements, dedication to skating and commitment to the club by looking at some or all of the following: 

  • Tests passed
  • Competitions attended
  • PA participation and attendance
  • Synchro participation
  • Coach input
  • Peer input

Our award winners for the 2016/2017 season were announced and celebrated on May 8, 2017, and they are listed below. We congratulate them, and wish the same to all of our talented and high-achieving skaters at Silver Blades!


Skeat Trophy for the Most Improved Preliminary Skater - Given to the Preliminary skater who has improved the most over the current year. Determined by coach input, tests passed, competitions attended, and synchro participation.

2016-2017 Winner: Arda S.


Kobzar Trophy for SSI - Given to the STARSkate I skater who shows enthusiasm, is eager to learn and dedicated, attends competitions, and shows commitment to the club. Determined by coach input, tests passed, competitions attended, and synchro participation.

2016-2017 Winner: Juliette G. 


Devereux Dedication Award for SSII - Given to the STARSkate II skater who consistently demonstrates dedication to skating through personal development, on- and off-ice behaviour, and participation in and commitment to the club. Determined by tests passed, competitions attended, coach input, PA participation, and synchro participation.

2016-2017 Winner: Aylssa M.


Directors Award for SSIII - A brand-new award introduced this season and given to the STARSkate III skater who shows enthusiasm and positive attitude, and is a good role model to his/her peers and younger skaters. He/she strives to push the boundaries of his/her skating abilities and demonstrates dedication to skating through personal development, on- and off-ice behaviour, and by attending competitions. He/she also shows commitment to the club by volunteering or acting as a PA. Determined by tests passed, competitions attended, coach input, PA participation, and synchro participation.

Doreen Berryman Award - SSIII Peer Award: This award is given to the STARSkate III skater who is the most sportsmanlike, enthusiastic and committed to the club as voted by their peers. Determined by peer input.

2016-2017 Winner: Mairi M.


PA of the Year Award - Determined by coach voting, parent feedback and attendance, our PA of the Year Award recognizes one PA who has exceeded expectations and done an outstanding job season-long at supporting our coaches and learn-to-skate students.

2016-2017 Winner: Gabrielle E.


Excellence in Figure Skating - A brand-new award introduced this season and given to Silver Blades skaters who have completed all of their Gold test requirements in the Freeskate, Ice Dance, Skills or Interpretive Skating disciplines.
