Open Ice

If you are interested in skating on any of the Open Ice sessions taking place on the Jan 12-14 weekend, you must pay a $20 fee, either by pre-purchasing an ice ticket online or by cash/cheque. Either way, there will be ice ticket envelopes by the arena entrance and on the bulletin board. Fill out your name, insert your payment, and give the envelope to the coach convening the session. If you do not have an ice ticket and do not have $20 cash/cheque, you will be asked to leave the ice. No exceptions.

Ice tickets are available as singles ($20), with discounts if you buy five or more ($17) and 10 or more ($16). To purchase them, you will first need to login to this website, and then follow these steps:

  • click on REGISTRATION at the top of the page
  • click on Purchase Other Products on the left
  • enter the number of ice tickets you'd like to buy and add them to your cart
  • click on Shopping Cart tab at the top of the page
  • select CONFIRM & REGISTER
  • if you have gift certificates and would like to use them, check the Use available credit box
  • if you don't have gift certificates or if your gift certificates don't cover the total owing, click PAY BY CREDIT CARD and follow through to complete your purchase

When you get your invoice by email, it will contain the printable tickets. We recommend that you print them off right away, cut them out and keep them in an envelope somewhere handy. When you're ready to use one, simply fill out your skater's name and the date of the session before giving it to the convenor on-ice.

Choreo Creativity Seminars with Roselle Doyle

On Saturday, January 13, we are hosting two Choreo Creativity seminars—one for Junior/Intermediate skaters (8:00-9:50am), and one for Senior skaters (10:00-11:50am). Taught by world-renowned choreographer Roselle Doyle—who has built show programs for Olympic champions Brian Orser and Elvis Stojko, among many others. They are designed to help our skaters think about how their movements can be used more effectively in music expression, character portrayal and on-ice storytelling.

Each seminar will start with 50 minutes of off-ice instruction, followed by 50 minutes on the ice, with 10 minutes in between to get skates on. Skaters are kindly asked to arrive at the rink 10 minutes before their seminar's start time and meet Roselle in the lobby for off-ice instruction.

Featuring world-renowned choreographer Roselle Doyle—who has built show programs for Olympic champions Brian Orser and Elvis Stojko, among many others—these seminars are designed to help our skaters think about how their movements can be used more effectively in music expression, character portrayal and on-ice storytelling. Simulations

For those who haven't done simulations before, they're designed to replicate the experience of skating in a competition or doing a formal test, and the goal is to help kids feel more fully prepared and ready for success. Participants will have a chance to run through a regulation-length warm-up before being formally announced to perform their programs one by one, with the ice all to themselves. There will not be any judging, scoring or ranking, but some coaches use the opportunity to assess their skaters' elements and program components in order to identify areas of excellence and where there's room for improvement.

If your child is testing or competing in the coming months and you'd like them to feel more at ease about it, we encourage you to take advantage of this chance to let them have a test-run in a familiar environment. You can register online for just $10 per program. Skaters can register for two simulations if they have more than one program they'd like to run through (i.e. freeskate, interpretive, showcase, dance, etc.), but signing up to skate the same program twice is not permitted.

Here is a detailed schedule outlining groups and skating orders. We kindly ask that skaters arrive at the rink 30 minutes prior to the start of their simulations.
